Back in June a quiet transition occured from one family to another of a Triangle landmark business that dates back more than two decades. In 1997, former owner Gypsy Gilliam brought her diner "Gypsy's Shiny Diner" to Cary on Buck Jones Road and the controversey was that it was too shiny. She got into a back and forth with the town of Cary that went "Viral" as the internet was just becoming widely available; the Diner was the talk of radio talk show hosts around the country.
According to WRAL, eventually a solution was reached
and the brick veneer behind the Diner was settled upon to reduce the shininess of the facility!
Since that time Gypsy turned her business operations over to her son who ran it for more than a decade. Recently her son wanted to give Gypsy the opportunity to retire from her NEXT restaurant and he sold it to the Park family who took over in June of 2018. The public announcement below was made recently through the former website GypsysShinyDiner.com
The representation of the sale by Tony Gilliam was through VR Business Brokers of the Triangle. More than fifty buyers were screened confidentially and a select number were confidentially granted access to the opportuntiy through a selective screening process. In the end James Park and his family won the business after an extensive series of financing, leasing, and legal due diligence items were completed.
In a recent statement that just went up on the Gypsy Shiny Diner
website, the Gilliam Family stated:
Dear Gypsy's Shiny Diner 'FAMILY',
Since September 30, 1997 you have let us be a part of your life and we will NEVER forget that. You have allowed Gypsy's Shiny Diner to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, engagements, new jobs and so much more. You came to see us ever so often over 21 years, brightening our days & late nights with a story, a gift or just your smile...YEAP it is US who have been BLESSED for 21 years.
The Gilliam family would like to announce that on September 30, 2018 (21 years to the day we opened) we stepped away from Gypsy's Shiny Diner and welcomed the Park family of Cary as the new owners of 'The Shiny Diner'. The name change reflects the end of 21 glorious years for us in the Diner business, we didn't leave, we are still in the restaurant business at the State Farmers Market Restaurant in Raleigh www.RealBiscuits.com . Our family would like to thank over 2 million guests and an amazing team that helped us fulfill our dream of a successful Diner that everyone could call their OWN!
We wish the Park family great success at The Shiny Diner on Buck Jones Rd and our family will ALWAYS be grateful for YOU ALL....our Diner FAMILY!!"
Congratulations to the Gilliam and the Park families for this successful transition!
