The Wake County Summer Food Program provides free meals to young people 18 and under who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year. This year, Garner has its first open food site at Community of Hope Ministries (located on the First Baptist Church of Garner campus, 601 St. Mary's St., right off of Benson Road). Any eligible youth may attend for free meals; no registration or application required.

The site serves lunch Monday through Friday11:30 a.m.– 1 p.m. It ends its summer food program on Aug. 3.

In addition to free meals, food sites offer fun, educational activities and opportunities for kids to remain active during the summer. Community of Hope has nutrition education materials and activities to help kids have an enjoyable summer and remain nutritionally healthy.
