SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting/Open House for Strategic Behavioral Center
DESCRIPTION:MAYOR WILLIAMS TO SPEAK AT OPEN HOUSE FOR NEW \n\nGERIATRIC INPATIENT PSYCHIATRIC UNIT AT LOCAL HOSPITAL\n \n\nOpen House: Friday\, April 7\, 2017 \n\nProgram and Ribbon Cutting: 9:15 AM to 10:30 AM\n\nFacility Tours: 10:45 AM to 6:00 PM\n\n \nStrategic Behavioral Center-Raleigh (SBC-Raleigh)\, located in Garner\, NC\, will open a new 24-bed inpatient unit for older adults and seniors in need of immediate treatment for behavior stabilization. The new 10\,000 sq foot unit will expand the current hospital footprint to approximately 61\,000 sq feet of treatment space. The hospital plans to admit the first patient on Monday\, April 10\, 2017.\n\n\n\nThe new coed inpatient unit is an expansion of the current child and adolescent program and is designed to support the needs of adults\, 55 years and older\, who may be suffering from mild to severe cognitive loss\, depression\, difficult to treat mood disorders\, psychosis and other co-occurring disorders. \n\n\n\nPatients admitted to this program may also have memory care challenges and may presents with a history of anger\, agitation\, sadness\, paranoia\, anxiety\, confusion and fear. Referrals to this unit will likely present with oppositional\, aggressive behaviors and have demonstrated violent speech or actions towards caregivers and loved ones. \n\n \n\nThe SBC-Raleigh program combines psychotherapy and medication management with the goal of assisting patients in achieving their highest degree of function and independence. Strategic Behavioral Center-Raleigh will offer treatment for adults and seniors with acute psychiatric symptoms in a separate senior/geriatric psychiatric unit. The hospital is ideally situated to serve adults and seniors in neighboring counties suffering from acute psychiatric challenges. \n\n \n\nThe multi-disciplinary team at SBC-Raleigh will provide the highest level of psychiatric care in the region outside of a traditional medical/surgical hospital. The staff is qualified to address medical issues commonly found in an older population. The treatment team includes a board-certified psychiatrist and physician\, experienced nursing staff\, licensed therapist\, a registered dietician\, and recreational therapist. \n\n \n\nPhysicians\, therapists\, faith-based organizations\, social service agencies\, or family members can make patient referrals. Patient assessments and referrals are accepted 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week and will be completed at the hospital by licensed professionals. The average length of stay will likely be 5-7 days for most patients.\n\n \n\nPhysical Plant\n\nOur construction team used an evidenced-based design to configure the senior care unit with the safety of our patients at the heart of the 10\,000 sq ft. expansion. The unit is designed to allow seniors to move freely around a centralized nurses station and to visit with staff and other patients once behaviors are stabilized. We installed non-slip floors and to reduce fall risks in our patient rooms\, communal areas and private dining room and have a separate outdoor courtyard area to enjoy as weather permits.\n\n \n\nHistory\n\nStrategic Behavioral Center-Raleigh opened in 2012 and currently has two therapeutic units to support the needs of children and adolescents struggling with mental health issues. Prior to the unit expansion\, SBC-Raleigh operated as a 51\,000 sq ft.\, 92-bed residential and acute care facility. SBC-Raleigh is accredited by the Joint Commission and employs more than 200 local residents.\n\n \n\nStrategic Behavioral Health was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Memphis\, Tennessee. Our hospitals and outpatient programs serve a broad population of patients and wide range of treatment needs. The goal for every SBH hospital and treatment team is to deliver quality care in a positive and therapeutic environment and promote a sustainable aftercare plan.\n\n \n\nThe leadership team is committed to delivering quality care and support to each of the 10 communities we serve. Strategic Behavioral Health employs more than 1\,900 employees and partners with local community-based providers in all of markets where our hospitals are located.\n\n \n\nIf you would like more information\, please contact Ty Johnson at (404) 433 5205\, or via email at ty.johnson@strategicbh.com.
