Town Council to Hold Public Hearing on Possible Parkland Fee-in-Lieu Adjustment
Public Hearing Notice
In response to Council feedback during the FY 2020-2021 budget process, staff has updated the fee-in-lieu calculation for parkland and will present two options for consideration during the Town Council meeting to be held Monday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located in Town Hall at 900 7th Ave. The Council will also hold a public hearing for interested parties to provide input during this meeting.
When the Town approves new residential development projects, it has the authority to require developers to contribute land for parks and recreation amenities for the new residents. In many cases, developers choose to pay a fee in lieu of actually donating the land. The Town then accumulates those fees and uses them to fund parks and recreation amenities. The rates Garner charges for fee-in-lieu payments have not been updated in many years, so the Town Council asked staff to develop updated fees for its consideration.
