Celebrate Earth Day at White Deer Park
The Town of Garner has three events planned to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22. Start your morning by helping keep Garner clean and green at Big Sweep/Litter Sweep. Volunteers are invited to meet at the Holly Shelter at White Deer Park at 9am to receive equipment and cleaning assignments. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling White Deer Park Nature Center at 919.661.6982. On-site registration will begin at 8:30am the day of the event. Volunteers are encouraged to bring drinking water, sun protection and closed-toed shoes.
Stick around the park for the Earth Day celebration 11am-1pm, where local organizations will be set up to share information about their efforts. Several activities and crafts will also be available for families to enjoy. The focus will be on the importance pollinators play in our lives.
Finally, come back later in the evening for the Statewide Star Party, part of the NC Science Festival. Several activities will be set up in the Nature Center and nearby field space to teach about the night sky. Telescopes, provided by the Raleigh Astronomy Club, will be available for viewing. The Star Party will start at 7pm and conclude at 9pm. Families are invited to camp overnight in the park for a small fee. Pre-registration for camping is required.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information about these and other outdoor programs, contact White Deer Park Nature Center at 919.661.6982.
